How To Make Birdseed Hangers
December 2, 2022
Encourage wildlife to come and visit your garden by creating your own bird seed hangers. It's easy with our DIY recipe. They make great Christmas ornaments too!
You will need:
- 3/4 cup plain flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 packet unflavoured gelatin (make to packet instructions)
- 3 tbsp rice syrup
- 4 cups birdseed
- Cookie cutters
- Straws
- Baking paper
- Ribbon/twine
How to make:
- Combine flour, water, gelatin and rice syrup and stir until well combined then add birdseed to the mixture, stirring until well coated.
- Place cookie cutters onto the baking paper and fill each one with the mixture. Smooth over the top with the back of a spoon and sit for 2-3 hours.
- Poke a hole through the top of each shape using a straw (not too close to the edge), making sure it goes all the way through.
- Once set, take the hangers out of the cutters and allow to dry for a few more hours or overnight.
- Cut ribbon to your desired length, thread through the hole in each, then hang on trees and wait for the birds to arrive!
